Growing up homeschooled, any of the holidays outside of religious days were lost in my family. I don’t think it was for any specific agenda or boycott other than with 10 children you aren’t going to get around to it all. My grandfather was a veteran and my understanding of military life and sacrifice comes from the stories and memories of my grandmother and my father’s childhood. Still. I had a hard time understanding Memorial Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day until I was an adult.
So I’m taking a little time to give my children a heads up on these days. We discuss war and destruction. As a semi-pacificst I have a hard time with war. It’s a complicated subject and we will be talking a lot about that today. Yet my feeling about the value of life and hope for peace does not change my gratitude and respect for the sacrifice of those who serve. So we will be honoring them today/
Here are a few of the things we are going over.
