One of Our Favorite Family Games – Kubb Game

Our family plays together. Often.  While we have regular family nights that involve a game, we also have favorites that just come out at random moments and rock our impromptu family time!
Recently we happened on a game that I had never heard of and it has revolutionized our Sunday afternoons.
KUBB was discovered this summer when I was going through the attic to sort through every. single. thing. we. own.  I purchased it from a store going out of business only because it was a natural wood game and I’m a sucker for that. I had no idea what I had found but the original tag was pricey so I went for it.  Then, it sat in the attic. For three years.
Anyway, I discovered it and pulled it down to look over.  It didn’t have instructions in the box so the Braniac and I decided to go to youtube and find what we could on it. Seriously we found way more than we bargained for. This game is awesome!!
Historically based off a game the Vikings played, Kubb is a mix of corn hole and a sort of lawn chess. The pieces are called femurs and skulls.  Barbaric, I know but I can turn that into a biology lesson and call it a day.
The game is easy and fun and so much more refined than Corn Hole… I just don’t even like saying that, and I’m not a fan of bean bags. You can’t wash them.  Control freak problems… Regardless, I’d rather say the word Kubb (koob). That’s, um, easier.
Here’s a little tutorial for you. It’s cheesy and don’t give yo kiddos beer. But, Seriously. GET KUBB!

This is our favorite instructional video on it that shows how easy it is. You may like this one better.

So in the interest of family time, I wanted to share this as one of our favorite things in case you and yours need a new game to play next week for the holidays.   Happy Kubbing!!
